My mother’s day gift was showing up late to the surprise party that my mom threw for my grandma and grandpa. So late that it had been over for hours when I finally showed, and I really just drove to West Virginia to hang out with them for a night.  Not great, considering I was supposed to be there in the first place - but I’m so glad I made the trip down to DC for Slate.

Only 6 members of Full Ammo could make it down for the 15 minute set we did Friday, but it went pretty well. It was one of those shows you feel OK about, then after you get a few compliments from people, you think - apparently we were funny. Sweet.

receSs, GWU’s group that set it all up, was insanely nice to us. I didn’t get to see their performance (due to my better-late-than-never trip to West Virginia), but I could tell from our UCB workshop with them that they’re good. Funny and accomodating is a kickass combination.

And of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that Derrick Comedy was mind-blowing. Not only did their longform set made me laugh quite possibly the hardest I have in a year, but I got to see how great chemistry can make the show - they seemed to be on the same page at nearly every moment.

People from receSs kept saying we have to come back next year, and I can’t help but agree. Great weekend.
